Kylee Monteiro Rehoboth MA Obituary: Gregory Groom to Be Charged With Murder in Death of Pregnant 18-Year-Old Girlfriend Kylee Monteiro in Rehoboth, Massachusetts

Authorities in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, are preparing to formally charge Gregory Groom, 22, with murder in connection with the death of his pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend, Kylee Monteiro.

Groom was arrested Tuesday, August 20, shortly before a search of his home and property led investigators to discover human remains believed to be Monteiro’s. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Taunton District Court, and CBS News Boston will provide live coverage of the proceedings.

Monteiro, who had recently graduated from Attleboro High School and was 11 weeks pregnant, was reported missing by Groom on Thursday, August 7. According to Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn, she was last seen alive at Groom’s home on County Street that day.

Family members have described the relationship as volatile, with Monteiro’s sister noting an “altercation” between the couple the night before she disappeared.

Following her disappearance, law enforcement launched an extensive search spanning nearly two weeks. Investigators canvassed the area and followed multiple leads in hopes of locating Monteiro.

The search culminated in Groom’s arrest Tuesday afternoon. Initially, he faced charges of aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation, all tied to the incident on August 6 involving Monteiro.

Later that evening, as investigators expanded their search to Groom’s family property on County Street, they discovered human remains consistent with those of Monteiro, Quinn reported. The state medical examiner has been called in to provide official confirmation, which authorities say is pending. Groom has been held without bail since his arrest.

Friends and community members have expressed grief over Monteiro’s death. “She wanted to be a mother and she was so happy,” said Kira Schofield, a close friend. “Kylee will always be remembered and always be loved.” Her untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the Rehoboth community, as many remember Monteiro as a bright, outgoing young woman with a promising future.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the circumstances of Monteiro’s death, citing the ongoing investigation. However, DA Quinn confirmed that the discovery of her remains followed a careful and thorough search of Groom’s property, conducted with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies.

The investigation is expected to continue in the coming weeks as authorities piece together the events leading up to her death. This case highlights concerns surrounding domestic violence and the vulnerability of young people in relationships marked by conflict.

Community leaders and friends of Monteiro have stressed the importance of awareness and support for those in potentially dangerous situations, especially in the context of intimate partner violence.

Groom’s upcoming arraignment will formally address the murder charge and is expected to provide additional details about the investigation and the evidence gathered.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the judicial process to unfold. Meanwhile, the community continues to mourn Monteiro, honoring her memory and celebrating the life she had ahead of her.

As the legal process moves forward, friends, family, and neighbors hope that the case will bring justice for Monteiro and shed light on the tragic consequences of domestic abuse. Her story serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals.
