Tyler Perry Studios Announces The Dream Collective: A Groundbreaking Filmmaker Incubator Program Offering Underrepresented Storytellers $30,000 Funding, Expert Mentorship, and Hands-On Industry Experience to Shape the Next Generation of Film Voices

Tyler Perry Studios has announced an inspiring new initiative that promises to transform the landscape of opportunity for emerging filmmakers.

The Dream Collective, the studio’s latest program, is designed to serve as an immersive, career-shaping experience that identifies, nurtures, and empowers the next wave of storytellers—particularly those whose voices have historically been underrecognized or underrepresented in the film industry.

At its core, this program is not only about filmmaking but also about access, mentorship, and the creation of sustainable career pathways. The Dream Collective revolves around one central, powerful goal: giving talented participants the opportunity to make a short film while learning directly from top industry professionals.

The program will provide aspiring filmmakers with hands-on training, personalized guidance, and unparalleled resources to elevate their creative visions into finished, professional-quality work.

Most notably, five selected participants will each receive $30,000 in funding to produce their projects, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of their artistic expression.

Tyler Perry himself has spoken passionately about the motivation behind this initiative. Reflecting on his own journey, Perry explained, “For a long time, it’s been on my heart to create a program where I could take what I’ve learned in this business and share it with others.

That’s why today, I’m honored and excited to introduce the Tyler Perry Studios Dream Collective. This is a fantastic opportunity for up-and-coming directors to learn about the craft and business of filmmaking from professionals at the top of their game. In a word, this is about access.

Breaking into the industry can be tough—believe me. When I started making movies twenty years ago, even though my stage plays were selling out, nobody in Hollywood knew my name or gave me a shot. The Tyler Perry Studios Dream Collective is my dream of opening the door for the next generation of artists.”

To ensure that the program provides a strong foundation for participants, Tyler Perry Studios has enlisted the support of two seasoned industry leaders as advisors. Dawn Hudson, former CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, brings decades of experience in elevating diverse voices within the global film community.

Joining her is acclaimed producer Nekisa Cooper, known for championing groundbreaking projects and nurturing new talent. Their involvement underscores the program’s commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and lasting impact.

Applications for The Dream Collective will officially open on April 17th and close on May 1st, giving aspiring filmmakers a two-week window to apply for this life-changing opportunity. Interested applicants are encouraged to prepare compelling project ideas and demonstrate their unique artistic vision, as the program is expected to be highly competitive.

The Dream Collective is more than just an incubator for short films—it is a statement about the future of storytelling. By investing in voices that reflect a wide range of experiences, perspectives, and communities, Tyler Perry Studios aims to enrich the cultural fabric of the film industry and create a pipeline of new talent ready to leave a lasting mark.

For emerging filmmakers who have dreamed of breaking into the business but struggled to gain access, this program represents a rare and powerful chance to step forward and be heard.
